AUCTIONATA, the Berlin-based online art and auction house is on my list this year because the brand positioning is already rock solid and it has some very competitive irons in the fire.

This start-up company’s sales volume increased tenfold from € 1.2 million ($ 1.65 million) in 2012 to € 12 million ($ 16.5 million) in 2013. In November, AUCTIONATA opened its offices in London, Zurich and its US business starts in 2014.

It’s great to see this fast-growing, savvy brand competing so quickly and effectively as a high-growth online art and auction house. In its first year with breakthrough online sales, AUCTIONATA has already broken existing online art auction records.

The company already built its brand equity when it sold Egon Schiele’s “Reclining Woman” for € 1.8 million ($ 2.4 million) bringing 2013 to a close with a positive balance.

Senior Vice President for North America, Robin Roche, who was formerly Senior Vice President & Global Head of Auctions at ARTNET, sets the course for the US launch planned for the 3rd quarter of 2014, complete with AUCTIONATA’S own TV studio and logistics center in New York.

AUCTIONATA’s goal is to open up the international online art market. I’ll be watching for a full blown chorus of US customers later in 2014.
